Jigjiga One Health Initiative consolidation workshop held
" With a sparse population, the ESRS is the second largest region of Ethiopia. The majority of its population is pastoralist, moves seasonally with their livestock in search of grazing areas and water. Their mobile life style is confronted with poor access to social services, notably for the provision of human and animal healthcare, which is strongly highlighted by the poor regional health indicators. The Federal government of Ethiopia makes a huge effort in strengthening access and quality education. Jigjiga University is the key university in the eastern part of the nation with its center of excellence in pastoralism education, research and community services. The Jigjiga One Health Initiative project is a 10 years (2015-2025) research and development program, funded by the Swiss government (includes Swiss Tropical Public Health Institute in Basel, Armaur Hansen Research Institute and Jigjiga University).
